How do I apply DTF?

DTF Application and Ironing Guide

Material Temperature (°C) Time (seconds) Pressure Additional Recommendations
Cotton 150 12-15 Medium Use parchment paper for even heat distribution.
Polyester 135 12-15 Medium Use parchment paper for even heat distribution.
Blends Variable Variable Variable Adjust temperature and time according to fabric composition.
Leather 160-180 15-20 High Avoid extremely high pressures to prevent leather damage.
Lycra/Spandex 135-150 12-15 Medium Ensure the garment is stretched to avoid wrinkles.
Nylon 140-150 10-12 Medium Use Teflon paper to protect the heat press.
Denim 150-160 15-20 High Ensure the fabric is completely flat during pressing.

General Application Steps

  1. Garment Preparation: Ensure the garment is clean and wrinkle-free. For fabrics like Lycra/Spandex, it is important that the garment is stretched before ironing the design.

  2. Heat Press Setup: Adjust your heat press according to the parameter table mentioned above, considering the recommended temperature, time, and pressure for the specific material of your garment.

  3. DTF Design Placement: Position the DTF film on the garment with the design facing down. Consider using parchment or Teflon paper between the press and the film to protect both the press and the design.

  4. Pressing: Apply the heat press with the appropriate pressure for the specified time. Pressure and time vary depending on the material, so be sure to follow the recommendations for each type of fabric.

  5. Peeling: You can remove the transfer hot or cold, as you prefer 😁

IMPRESORA GARMENT PREPARATION: ENSURE THE GARMENT IS CLEAN AND WRINKLE-FREE. FOR FABRICS LIKE LYCRA/SPANDEX, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE GARMENT IS STRETCHED BEFORE IRONING THE DESIGN.

Post-Application Care

  • Washing: Wash garments inside out with cold water. Avoid using bleach and prefer air drying or a gentle cycle in the dryer.
  • Storage of Unused DTF: Store any unused DTF transfers in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Important Considerations

  • Perform tests on a small area or a fabric swatch if it is your first time working with a specific material, to ensure that your heat press settings are appropriate.
  • Adjust the temperature and time according to the specific composition of the fabric, especially for blends, to achieve the best results.
